On Flag Day, Ana and Alex return from their final trip to Latvia.
This means: the adoption is complete. Almost one year after meeting her for the first time, we’re all finalized and sharing the same last name. It’s finally official. And one more thing…
As she walks through U.S. Customs, she becomes an American. We are so grateful to Latvia and the U.S. for granting us permission to live as a family and share citizenship.
Ana is incredibly proud of her Russian and Latvian roots. They will always be a huge part of her that we celebrate. And. As she becomes an American and embraces her new country, she wants to party. She asked me before they left last week, “Mama, can we have beeeg pahr-ty for me for American?”
Dude. We are going to party like rock stars. Like it’s 1999. Like all night long, or at least until 8pm.
She doesn’t know it, but she’s coming home to all her American friends, an American backyard cookout, American cheese, American apple pies, all of us decked out in American flag-wear, and the best American playlist ever. Here’s what I have so far:
American Ana Epic Party Mix:
1. America – Neil Diamond
2. American Girl – Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
3. American Pie – Don McLean
4. American Woman – Lenny Kravitz
5. Kids in America – Kim Wilde
6. Living in America – James Brown
7. Party in the U.S.A. – Miley Cyrus
8. R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A. – John Mellencamp
Help! What am I missing? What else needs to be on this party mix?!?!
